Floor Associates

It is very good if some floor associates can arrive at 7:30 am. A light breakfast will be available. However, we understand if you must step away to attend class. The floor assistant duties are finished around 11:30. Please let us know what times you will be available.

What’s involved:

  • Help guide teams to their assigned space; note teams are not assigned a table, just a zone.
  • Help teams set up and use their development environment. It is appropriate to answer questions about these issues during the contest.
  • Hand out problem sets to teams at the contest start.
  • Relay questions about problems from the teams to the judges.
  • Monitor that each team uses just two laptops and is not using a phone as a mini-laptop.
  • Relay facilities issues to the appropriate people.
  • At the end of the contest
    • Have each team clean their workspace including collecting coats.
    • Direct the teams to return any borrowed laptops in the Diercks Hall atrium.
    • Direct contestants to find seats in the NVIDIA auditorium by 11:25.

Judges

Judges should generally arrive by 8 am so they can review the problem packets before the contest start. Breakfast items will also be available. The basic duty is to evaluate solutions for correctness; see the judging guide for directions on that. In addition, judges answer questions about problem statements.

The basic requirement for judging is that people have had experience with programming. Most of the solutions are in Java or Python, so having had experience with one of those languages is a benefit. The other judges will be happy to help new folks get started.

Head Judge

The head judge acts as a judge and coordinates judging activities. In particular, the head judge ensures all contestant questions are answered, resolves any solution correctness issues, and finalizes the standings. The head judge is also a system administrator.

System Administrator

  • Starts the contest software.
  • Ensures the problem sets, data files, teams, and associates are loaded in the contest software. Typically, only the first few problems have their descriptions loaded into the software.
  • Adds late-registration teams to the contest site.
  • Assign administrative role to additional judges if needed.
